Peter Drew’s iconic poster series features archival photos of people who sought exemption from the dictation test that applied to non-British migrants entering Australia.
This exhibition reveals the stories behind the faces.
What does it mean to be Aussie?
The people on Drew's posters were born in Australia or had lived here for many years.
They wanted to travel overseas so had to apply for exemption from the dictation test before leaving. Without it, they could be refused entry to Australia on their return.
