A journey into Antarctica’s frozen realm
Explore the flowing and many-faceted stories of Antarctica’s ice – its sheets, glaciers, shelves and sea ice – in this compelling talk by environmental historian Dr Joy McCann.
Joy explores Antarctica as a living force that shapes our planet’s story in her new book, Heart of Ice: A journey into Antarctica's frozen realm.
Part science, part history and part imagination, Joy invites us to see the vast southernmost continent in a different way.
Learn about the ancient histories held by the ice, the amazing array of creatures that live on and under it and the need to respond to rapid ecological change.
Dr Joy McCann is Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Tasmania and a prize-winning author whose other books include Wild Sea: A History of the Southern Ocean. She first travelled to Antarctica as a tourist in 2017.
