Terms and conditions

General

  1. Information on how to enter and details of the prize form part of these Terms and Conditions. Entry into the Competition constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  2. The Promoter is the National Museum of Australia (ABN 70 592 297 967), Lawson Crescent, Acton Peninsula, Canberra ACT 2601. The prize provider is Aurora Expeditions, 2/35 Buckingham St, Surry Hills, NSW 2010.
  3. The Competition commences at 9:00am (AEST) on 30 June 2026 and closes at 5:00pm (AEDT) on 11 October 2026 ("Competition Period").
  4. To enter, eligible entrants must:
    1. Be 18 years old or older;
    2. Visit the National Museum of Australia's Antarctica Exhibition during the Competition Period; and
    3. Complete the official Competition Entry Form via the QR code displayed at the exhibition shop, including providing the required contact details.
  5. Only one (1) entry per person is permitted. Duplicate entries will be deemed invalid and removed prior to the draw.
  6. Entrants may only enter in their own name and using their own email address.
  7. Incomplete, illegible, misleading, fraudulent, machine-generated or duplicate entries will be deemed invalid and removed prior to the prize draw.
  8. All valid entries received will be provided to a third party electronic random draw operator, Trade Promotions and Lotteries (TPAL) Pty Ltd, who is authorised to draw trade competition lotteries electronically in Australia (in SA subject to and in accordance with the Lottery and Gaming Regulations 2008, Regulations 30(fa) and 31(h).   9. The Promoter, and Aurora Expeditions, and Trade Promotions and Lotteries (TPAL) Pty Ltd, and their related agencies and suppliers assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries.
  10. The prize includes:
    1. One (1) Aurora Expeditions Antarctic voyage for two (2) adults between ten (10) and fourteen (14) days in duration;
    2. Accommodation in one (1) entry-level Balcony Stateroom (or equivalent, subject to availability);
    3. AU$3,500pp towards return economy class flights for two (2) people as outlined below; and
    4. Standard voyage inclusions listed on the confirmed itinerary.
  11. The total prize pool is valued at up to AU$58,840, inclusive of GST. The Promoter and prize provider accept no responsibility for any variation in prize value.
  12. The prize is subject to availability and Aurora Expeditions' booking conditions.
  13. The prize is not transferable, exchangeable, refundable or redeemable for cash and may not be sold, bartered or otherwise transferred.
  14. The prize cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount, offer or promotion.
  15. Aurora Expeditions reserves the right to substitute the prize or any component of the prize with one of equal or greater value if any element becomes unavailable for reasons beyond its reasonable control.
  16. The actual retail value of the prize may vary at the time of booking or travel. No compensation will be payable for any difference in value.
  17. Any changes requested by the winner after booking, including but not limited to flight changes, itinerary deviations or upgrades, may incur additional costs payable by the winner.
  18. The draw will take place at TPAL 13/477 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000 on 19 October 2026 at 3:00pm AEDT in the presence of an independent scrutineer One winner and reserve winners will be drawn at random from all valid entries received.
  19. The winner will be notified by the Promoter via phone and email within five (5) business days of the draw and the winner(s) initial of their first name, last name and postcode published on the National Museum of Australia website and on the Aurora Expeditions website by 26 October 2026.
  20. If the winner does not accept the prize within 14 days of the draw (2 November 2026) the Promoter will perform an unclaimed prize draw, in the presence of an independent scrutineer at the same location and time as the original draw on 3 November 2026. The unclaimed prize winner will be notified by phone and email with information on how to claim the prize on 4 November 2026 and the winner(s) initial of their first name, last name and postcode will be published on the National Museum of Australia website and on the Aurora Expeditions website by 9 November 2026. If the unclaimed prize winner does not claim or transfer the prize by 17 November 2026, then they will forfeit the prize and a redraw will not take place.
  21. If an unclaimed prize draw is required by law, it will be conducted in accordance with the relevant permit conditions.

Eligibility

  1. Entry is open only to Australian residents aged 18 years or over who have visited the National Museum of Australia's Antarctica Exhibition during the Competition Period.
  2. Employees, officers, contractors and immediate family members of the National Museum of Australia, Aurora Expeditions, Trade Promotions and Lotteries Pty Ltd, and their related entities, agencies and suppliers associated with the Competition are not eligible to enter.
  3. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and entrants, including proof of age, identity, residency, exhibition attendance and eligibility.
  4. The Promoter may disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process or who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

Voyage conditions and inclusions

  1. Aurora Expeditions will provide the winner with three (3) available Antarctic voyage options within fourteen (14) days of the winner accepting the prize.
  2. Voyage options will be selected at Aurora Expeditions' discretion and are subject to availability.
  3. The travel window for Antarctic voyages is November to March, subject to voyage availability.
  4. The winner must select and confirm their preferred voyage by 30 March 2027.
  5. Voyages will be between ten (10) and fourteen (14) days in duration and will depart from and return to South America, including Punta Arenas, Chile and/or Ushuaia, Argentina, depending on the itinerary.
  6. The prize includes two (2) berths in one (1) cabin. The winner may travel alone or with one guest.
  7. Cabin category will be an entry-level Balcony Stateroom or equivalent, subject to availability at the time of booking.
  8. No cabin upgrades, substitutions or cash alternatives will be provided unless otherwise agreed by Aurora Expeditions.
  9. The winner and guest must travel on the same itinerary.
  10. The winner must provide all required booking information within the timeframes advised by Aurora Expeditions.
  11. Name changes are not permitted once booking has been confirmed.
  12. Accommodation and travel dates are subject to availability. Blackout periods may apply.
  13. The winner and guest are responsible for obtaining and carrying valid passports, visas and any other required travel documentation.
  14. Any fines, penalties, losses or expenses arising from inadequate or invalid travel documentation will be the sole responsibility of the traveller(s).
  15. If the winner or guest is refused entry into any country or destination for any reason, the prize will be forfeited and no replacement or compensation will be provided.
  16. The winner and guest must comply with all Aurora Expeditions policies, booking conditions and travel requirements.
  17. A credit card imprint or cash bond may be required at hotels or onboard for incidental expenses.
  18. Any cancellations will result in the prize being forfeited, unless advised otherwise at Aurora Expedition’s discretion.
  19. The prize includes the standard inclusions listed on the confirmed Aurora Expeditions itinerary, which may include:
    1. Transfers specified in the itinerary;
    2. Pre- and post-voyage accommodation specified in the itinerary;
    3. Onboard accommodation with daily cabin service;
    4. Meals, snacks, tea and coffee during the voyage;
    5. Beer, house wine and soft drinks with dinner;
    6. Shore excursions and Zodiac cruises;
    7. Educational lectures and guiding services from the Expedition Team;
    8. Initial consultation with the onboard expedition doctor;
    9. One complimentary polar expedition jacket per guest;
    10. Complimentary use of Muck Boots during the voyage;
    11. Pre-departure information materials;
    12. Port surcharges, permits and landing fees; and
    13. Gratuities for ship crew and local guides.

Flight conditions

  1. The prize includes a contribution by Aurora Expeditions of up to AU$3,500 per person toward return economy airfare for flights for two (2) people from the winner's nearest Australian capital city airport (Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Darwin or Perth) to the applicable voyage embarkation/disembarkation point.
  2. Flights must be selected and booked by Aurora Expeditions.
  3. Any airfare costs exceeding AU$3,500 per person, including upgrades, fare differences, stopovers, routing changes, itinerary deviations or date changes requested by the winner, must be paid by the winner.
  4. Flights are subject to airline availability, airline terms and conditions and Aurora Expeditions approval.
  5. Air travel is subject to the operating airline's Conditions of Carriage.
  6. Tickets are non-transferable once issued.
  7. Tickets may not be upgraded using the prize value.
  8. Travel dates are subject to availability and blackout periods may apply.
  9. If the winner chooses not to use the included flights, or the full value of the flight allowance is not utilised, no cash alternative, reimbursement or travel credit will be provided.
  10. Any unused portion of the flight allowance cannot be applied toward upgrades, alternative routing, stopovers, itinerary deviations or any other travel costs.

Marketing and publicity

  1. By entering the Competition, entrants consent to the Promoter and Aurora Expeditions collecting, using and disclosing their personal information for the purpose of administering the Competition, awarding the prize, booking travel and conducting related promotional activities.
  2. The winner agrees to participate in reasonable promotional activity relating to the Competition and prize, including photography, video, interviews, social media content and publicity.
  3. The winner agrees to the publication of the initial of their first name, last name and postcode for winner announcement purposes, where required by law.

Personal information and privacy

  1. Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and the Privacy Policies of the Promoter, Aurora Expeditions and Trade Promotions and Lotteries Pty Ltd.
  2. Personal information will be disclosed to Aurora Expeditions, airlines, service providers, Trade Promotions and Lotteries Pty Ltd and regulatory authorities where required for the administration of the Competition and prize fulfilment.
  3. Entrants may receive future communications from the Promoter and Aurora Expeditions in accordance with the consent provided during competition entry and each organisation's privacy policy.

Exclusions

  1. Unless expressly stated, the prize does not include:
    1. Travel insurance;
    2. Passports or visas;
    3. Vaccinations or medical expenses;
    4. Transport to and from departure airports;
    5. Additional accommodation not listed in the itinerary;
    6. Meals, beverages or alcohol not specifically included in the itinerary;
    7. Optional activities or upgrades;
    8. Spending money or personal expenses;
    9. Laundry or onboard incidentals;
    10. Excess baggage charges;
    11. Freight charges;
    12. Transfers not listed in the itinerary;
    13. Ground transportation not specifically included in the itinerary;
    14. Airline upgrades;
    15. Itinerary deviations; or
    16. Any other costs not specifically listed as included in the confirmed Aurora Expeditions booking confirmation or itinerary.

Additional conditions

  1. Travel insurance with expedition cruise coverage is mandatory and must be purchased by the winner and guest at their own expense. Proof of insurance must be provided prior to embarkation.
  2. Antarctic expedition travel is subject to weather, ice and operational conditions. Itineraries, landing sites and voyage schedules may change without notice for safety or operational reasons.
  3. Shore landings and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
  4. By accepting the prize, the winner acknowledges that expedition travel and associated activities involve inherent risks, including the risk of injury, illness, property damage or death.
  5. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Promoter and Aurora Expeditions are not responsible for any loss, damage, delay, expense or personal injury arising directly or indirectly from participation in the Competition or use of the prize.
  6. The Promoter makes no representation as to the safety, conditions or other matters that may exist at any destination.
  7. If the Competition is interfered with or cannot be conducted as reasonably anticipated due to circumstances beyond the Promoter's control, including technical failures, supplier issues, unauthorised intervention or fraud, the Promoter reserves the right to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the Competition, subject to applicable laws.
  8. The Promoter's decision in relation to all aspects of the Competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
