Antarctica told the extraordinary first-hand stories of more than 100 years of Australians in Antarctica – from early explorers to recent expeditioners at research stations including Mawson and Macquarie Island.

It was on show at the National Museum of Australia from 1 July to 11 October 2026.

Antarctica featured rare objects from one of the world’s largest Antarctic collections, on public display for the first time since their acquisition from the Australian Antarctic Division.

It brought a new understanding of how Antarctica continues to capture the imaginations of Australians – and why caring for it matters to us all.
