PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL – LED TEALIGHT CANDLES
- PROVIDED IN LANTERN MAKING WORKSHOPS AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIA 16–24 APRIL 2024 AND
- MAY HAVE BEEN PROVIDED TO SOME ATTENDEES AT A DROP-IN LANTERN-MAKING ACTIVITY AT THE ILLUMINATING EGYPT FESTIVAL AT THE MUSEUM ON SATURDAY 13 APRIL 2024
The Museum has recently become aware that LED tealight candles supplied as part of Lantern-making School Holiday Workshops between 16 and 24 April 2024, and that may have been supplied to some attendees at a free drop-in lantern-making activity at the Museum’s Illuminating Egypt Festival on Saturday 13 April 2024, do not comply with mandatory standards for products containing button batteries.
This is because the button batteries are in a compartment that is not secure and the product is missing warnings about:
- the dangers of button/coin batteries to children
- what to do when a person suspects someone has swallowed or placed a button/coin battery inside any part of their body.
Children are at risk of choking, serious injury or death if they swallow or place button/coin batteries inside their bodies.
If you suspect a child has swallowed or inserted a button/coin battery:
- Call Triple Zero (000) if a child is having any difficulty breathing.
- Call the Poisons Information Centre immediately on 13 11 26, available 24 hours a day. They can direct you to an appropriate medical facility.
Early action can save lives. Do not wait for symptoms to develop.
The affected LED tealight candles look like this:
