The Canberra Institute of Technology and the National Museum of Australia will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday 16 November 2004 to expand their collaboration of the past three years.
CIT and the National Museum work together on numerous projects including Talkback Classroom — a series of public student debates, and the annual CIT gala fashion parade.
The memorandum will provide further learning opportunities for students, staff and the community and allow students to be seconded to special museum projects in areas including web development, sponsorship, public affairs and conservation. CIT student involvement has allowed the National Museum to expand and develop its activities in a variety of different areas.
CIT Chief Executive Dr Peter Veenker says CIT and the National Museum have much to offer each other in terms of practical work experience for students and professional development opportunities for staff.
'The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to provide a framework in which both CIT and the National Museum can operate to meet the needs of each organisation and the community,' he said. 'In working together, I am confident we will continue to provide first class resources and facilities and I look forward to our future involvement.'
'This partnership also allows CIT to showcase the practical, flexible and innovative programs we have to offer. Our students graduate with the skills and knowledge they need to live and work in the global environment and our partnership with the National Museum will assist us in promoting our students to the community.'
National Museum Director, Craddock Morton, is pleased to be working with the CIT. 'The National Museum and CIT share a common goal of wanting to provide relevant educational facilities to the community and a total learning experience,' he said.
'Working with CIT will allow the National Museum to expand its projects and services to continue to provide innovative learning opportunities and sustain its position as a national leader.'
