Families are invited to the Tim and Gina Fairfax Discovery Centre to experience the joy and wonder of stories with award-winning children’s book authors and illustrators from around Australia.

After play time, hop over to Wambuwuny the grey kangaroo’s corner for story time, then join our special guest author or illustrator in the Workshop for a unique creative activity.

She was small when she heard about them … the incredible freedom machines.

Join Gunai woman Kirli Saunders as she shares her stories, The Incredible Freedom Machines and Our Dreaming. Then join the award-winning author to construct your very own freedom machine.

Kirli Saunders – Sunday 22 October

Kirli Saunders OAM is a proud Gunai woman and award-winning author, visual artist and consultant. An experienced speaker and facilitator advocating for the environment and equality, Kirli was the NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year for 2020.

In 2022 she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her contribution to the arts, particularly literature. Her books include Bindi, Our Dreaming, Kindred and the soon-to-be-published Returning (2023, Magabala). Her play, Going Home, directed by Shari Sebbens, will take to the stage in 2024, and she is currently writing her anticipated novel, Yaraman.
