In Meet the People students are introduced to the life of some fascinating Australians through key objects. Students then explore the Museum’s galleries to find more examples of Australian stories.
Aims
- Introduce students to some significant people in Australia’s history.
- Provide students with a brief overview of the Museum’s galleries by introducing them to the Museum’s main themes and the link between objects, personal stories and active citizenship.
Structure
- Introductory activity — students are introduced to the connection between the Museum’s objects and personal stories through a short interpretive presentation about some significant Australians. The education officer will also give a brief orientation to the Museum’s galleries and other available activities.
- Gallery activity — working in groups, students then go into the Museum’s galleries under adult supervision to explore the Museum further and look for additional examples of people who have made a contribution to Australia. The school’s own staff supervise the tour of the galleries.
This program has been especially devised to cater for schools that need to come to the Museum in very large groups.
