Hero or villain?

Curriculum areas: Australian history, historical skills

Years: 6–10

Key curriculum links: Time, Continuity and Change; Natural and Social Systems; Investigation, Communication and Participation.

This unit of work looks at how Ned Kelly has been portrayed in photographs, by himself and by his victims, and through other evidence such as ballads, contemporary drawings and the writings of historians and other commentators.

The unit is linked to a resource called Australian History Mysteries which includes a case study on Ned Kelly called ‘Ned Kelly: Hero or villain?’

Erratum: The ‘historical photos’ page of the colour version of this unit of work refers to answers ‘on page 46’. It should read ‘on page 8’.
