2019 Swayn Fellowship program

The Swayn Senior Fellow in Australian Design will explore the identity and characteristics of Australian design through the Museum’s vast collection of Australian objects and stories. Through collaboration with designers, creative practitioners and institutions across Australia a program of events, exhibitions and special projects will be developed to stimulate interest, knowledge and enjoyment of Australian design nationally.

Ms Erickson will lead the creation of a new National Museum curatorial centre and establish the Swayn Centre for Australian Design over the next two years. The Centre will focus on all aspects of design, including architecture, landscape architecture, fashion, graphic design, product and digital design, and how design can affect and inform our lives. The goal of the new centre will be to increase public connection to and appreciation of design, promote dialogue and support the development of Australian design across Australia and the world.
