Whether it’s Shrek the big green ogre who lives in the swamp, Poppy the upbeat and slightly naive Troll, or Wallace the cheese-loving, eccentric inventor, there’s someone for everyone in DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition.

You’ll find over 80 exquisitely created maquettes, original concept art and sketches, plus video interviews with illustrators and animators.

To help you get the most out of the exhibition, here are our top five tips.

Tip 1: Book your tickets online

To avoid missing out or queueing a long time to get tickets, buy them online. The ticket price is the same whether you buy your tickets at the Museum or via the website.

If you already have tickets and, for whatever reason, are unable to make it, email and we can easily move your ticket to another day.

Tip 2: Park and ride

Avoid car park hassles and get dropped off at the front door when you ride on the free Culture Loop shuttle bus.

The bus will come past the Museum on an hourly schedule from the city. You can catch the bus from the Canberra Centre on Akuna Street.

Tip 3: Don’t miss Dragon Flight or The Drawing Room

Dragon Flight: A Dragon Eye’s View of Berk is a highlight of the exhibition. This 12-metre wide, 180-degree immersive screening centres on How to Train Your Dragon’s Toothless as he flies over the Viking town of Berk.

Another exhibition highlight is The Drawing Room. This is where you’ll find the popular animation desk digital kiosks. Here you can create a short, animated movie sequence on technology and software developed by DreamWorks.

Tip 4: Visit our shop and take home your own piece of DreamWorks

Our shop will be full of fun, bright and colourful merchandise. Pop in and grab your own Shrek ears or Poppy the Troll wig. The shop is located in the Atrium and is open every day.

Tip 5: Become a Museum Friend

Become a Friend and beat the queues by jumping in the Friends-only queue for a much-reduced wait time.

There are plenty of other benefits of being a Museum Friend, including discounts to our beautiful Museum Shop, and a reduced rate on your ticket purchase.

So there you have it, our top tips for an awesome DreamWorks Animation experience. Enjoy!

DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition — Journey from Sketch to Screen is on show at the National Museum of Australia from 12 September 2019 until 2 February 2020.
