We are updating our new website in stages. This page will be changed to the new design but is not currently optimised for mobile devices.
WARNING: This website contains confronting and disturbing content, and names and images of deceased people. It may not be suitable for children under 15 years. Many of the historic images show an official, sanitised view which did not reflect reality. The faces of some adolescents have been blurred to protect privacy.
The Inside blog
The Inside: Life in Children's Homes and Institutions blog was for sharing reflections from people who experienced some or all of their childhood in institutions. It closed in November 2011 and is not being updated.
Most of the blog was created by people who experienced institutional 'care'. Other contributions came from people who had studied the experience or reflected on it in some way. Some of the content was created by staff at the National Museum of Australia.
The Inside blog includes contributed stories, images, poetry, artwork, memories, sound and video. Many quotes from the blog were used on this website and in the Inside exhibition.
