Encounters is the result of a remarkable project involving the National Museum of Australia, the British Museum, and 27 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities around the nation.

The associated Engaging Objects research project was undertaken by the National Museum, the British Museum and the Australian National University, supported by the Australian Research Council.
