Expressions of interest
The National Museum of Australia (NMA) is seeking expressions of interest from eminent leaders from the design professions to become the inaugural Swayn Senior Fellow in Australian Design. The Fellowship is a joint initiative supported by the Swayn Gallery of Australian Design, Swayn Foundation and the National Museum of Australia.
This will be the first named curatorial position in the history of the Museum — and would be responsible for planning and establishing a program on Australian Design within the Museum over the next two years. This program can include exhibitions and displays, public lectures and panel discussions and other public events that seek to stimulate wide national interest in Australia’s design history.
The NMA is committed to the idea that design in this country — broadly conceived and understood as encompassing a range of disciplines — is fundamental to understanding our experience as a national community. Whether the design focus is architectural and the built environment, industrial, fashion or media design, the capacity we have as humans to plan and engineer material and virtual worlds in the service of our needs and interests is a broadly-felt experience with enduring effects on the way we live our lives.
