Mushrooms, Stinkhorns, Cannonball fungi and more
Sunday 6 July 2008, 11am to 1pm
Discover that there is more to mushrooms than meets the eye. Heino Lepp, Honorary Associate at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, will reveal the astonishing world of the fungal kingdom in this popular nine week series of talks. Topics will range from fungal lifestyles and ecology to fungi and people, and spend some time looking at fungi in the gardens. No previous fungal or botanical knowledge necessary!

Please note: A new talk will be presented each Thursday from 1 May to 3 July at 2.30pm and repeated the following Sunday from 4 May to 6 July at 11am.

Presented in association with Corroboree Man Phillip Yubbagurri Brown, this popular didjeridu competition will include prizes for best solo didj player, best original artwork or didj, best junior didj player and most unique didj.

Curator Alison Mercieca will talk about material collected during archaeological investigations of Macassan trepang (sea cucumber) harvesting on the coast of northern Australia. Objects will be available for viewing.

Explore Australian history through the camera lens with a Museum photographer. Participants will view photographic equipment that spans a century, learn simple lighting techniques and take photographs of objects and Museum architecture. Bring your own digital camera for this two-hour workshop. Suitable for children aged 8–15 years.
