The National Museum

With its stunning architecture and magnificent location, the National Museum of Australia, Canberra, is an ideal venue for weddings, corporate events, gala balls, lakeside dining and cocktail functions.

The Museum boasts sweeping decks, expansive windows and imposing indoor and outdoor spaces with mountain, lakeside and city views, providing versatile and memorable settings for any occasion.

The Hall

Treat your guests to a unique experience of dining in the Museum’s majestic Hall among some of the larger objects from the National Historical Collection. The Hall is a stunning architectural space with high ceilings, curved walls and expansive windows reminiscent of the Sydney Opera House.

Included in the venue hire are:

  • 1 x security guard
  • 1 x cleaner for 4 hours

Bay Window

The Bay Window offers both dramatic architecture and intimacy within the larger Hall space. Expansive curved windows provide a stunning backdrop to your  event, and access to the Lakeside Deck can be arranged on request.

Included in the venue hire are:

  • 1 x security guard
  • 1 x cleaner for 4 hours

Cost: Evening (from 6.30 pm) $950
Capacity: Cocktail 150, Banquet 80, Cabaret 50, Theatre 100

Peninsula Room

The Peninsula Room is both a practical daytime venue and a stunning evening event space. Located right on the water’s edge, its floor-to-ceiling windows offer an abundance of natural light and views over Lake Burley Griffin and the Garden of Australian Dreams. Guests also have exclusive use of an external deck and breezeway perfect for pre-dinner canapés or an outdoor breakout space.

Included in the venue hire are:

  • two data projectors with projection screens
  • lectern and microphone
  • roving microphone
  • internet connection

Cost: Full day (9am to 5pm) $850, Half day $650, Evening (from 5pm) $1500.
Capacity: Cocktail 280, Banquet 200, Cabaret 150, Theatre 250

Burley Griffin Room

The Burley Griffin Room is the perfect venue for your next meeting or workshop. Catering for up to 80 people, the room is also available for small evening functions.

 Included in the venue hire are:

  • lectern and microphone

Cost: Full day (9am to 5pm) $600, Half day $350, Evening (from 5pm) $650

Museum Cafe

With its architecturally designed spaces and amazing views over Lake Burley Griffin, the Museum Cafe provides an impressive backdrop for your event. High ceilings combine with expansive windows in this award-winning space, with access to the outdoor deck/balcony available on request.

Visions Theatre

Visions Theatre is a dedicated lecture theatre suitable for talks, presentations and film screenings for up to 177 people. Access to the green room is available on request.

Included in the venue hire are:

  • data projector and projection screen
  • lectern and microphone
  • roving microphone
  • laptop
  • complimentary use of a dedicated break-out space to serve refreshments

Cost: Full day (9am to 5pm) $1620, Evening (from 5pm) $1620

Friends Lounge

The Friends Lounge is a modern, relaxing and intimate space for informal social gatherings.

Garden of Australian Dreams

At the heart of the Museum is the Garden of Australian Dreams, a symbolic landscape exploring ideas of ‘place’ and ‘country’. This outdoor area, with its water features, creative landscaping and lighting effects, is encircled by the Museum building, providing a magical setting for any evening event.

Amphitheatre and Lakeside Deck

This impressive outdoor venue, situated right on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, makes a perfect setting for an event under the stars.

Capacity: Cocktail 1600

Set up options

The venues can be set up in a variety of ways. Below are some popular options:

Unique corporate gifts

Corporate gifts to complement a special event or occasion can be pre-purchased from the Museum Shop. Here you will find a variety of Australian-made gifts and an exclusive range of National Museum products. After-hours access to the Museum Shop for your guests can be arranged by request.

Private tours, gallery viewings and team building

Your guests can discover treasured, surprising and inspirational objects and stories from Australia’s history on a private tour or an exclusive gallery and exhibition viewing.

Tours can be conducted in a variety of languages and tailored to impress your guests. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Team-building games and exercises can also be coordinated on request.

Audio, staging and lighting

Our technicians will work with you to create an audiovisual package to meet your needs. A price for this component will be provided in your written quote.

Security

Events held outside of business hours may require one or more security guards. High-risk events may require a higher ratio of guards to guests. This is at the Museum’s discretion. A price for security will be provided in your written quote.

Cleaning

Some events may require additional cleaning services. A price for cleaning will be provided in your written quote.

Location

The National Museum of Australia is located on Lawson Crescent, Acton Peninsula, Canberra.

The Museum is just a short car ride from the city centre.

Parking

A dedicated short and long stay car park is located at the Museum. Parking is free after hours and on weekends and public holidays.

Disabled parking facilities are available close to the main entrance.

A bus and coach parking area is located close to the main entrance.

Taxi

A dedicated taxi drop-off and pick-up point is located close to the main entrance.

A staff member can arrange for taxis to collect your guests after your event on request.

Accommodation

With plenty of accommodation options located close by in NewActon and Canberra City, your guests won’t need to travel far.
