If you want to make the most of your visit to the National Museum of Australia or you have limited time, guided tours are ideal. Each tour is personalised and run by a trained Visitor Services Host. Your host knows all about the Museum's exhibitions and can share engaging background information with you during your tour.

Host talks

Daily

Enjoy a free ten-minute talk focusing on some of the highlights from the Museum's collections or the symbolism of the Garden of Australian Dreams. Ask at the Information desk on arrival for the talk topics and times for that day.

Museum highlights

Guided tour – fees apply

Daily: 9.30–10.30am

This guided tour provides visitors with an overall impression of each of the Museum's exhibitions. It offers an excellent general introduction to the National Museum of Australia. Fees apply.

First Australians

Guided tour – fees apply

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 3–4pm
Tuesday, Thursday and Weekends: 1–2pm

This is a guided tour through the First Australians gallery. It provides an insight into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' history, cultures, spirituality and connections to country. The tour is designed to give you an insight into Australia's Indigenous history. Fees apply.

People and places

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 1–2pm
Tuesday, Thursday and Weekends: 3–4pm

This is a guided tour through the Landmarks gallery. It provides insight into major themes in Australia's history through stories of people and landscapes, flora, fauna and technologies in the places where they live. Fees apply.

Open collections

Self-guided tour – free

Open for self-guided tours 15 minutes on the hour, 10am to 4pm daily

Open Collections is a part of the Gallery of First Australians that gives visitors a special 'behind the scenes' glimpse of more than 2000 objects from the National Museum of Australia's Indigenous collections. Gallery of First Australians. Free.

Cost of guided tours

Adult: $10

Concession: $8 (seniors, students, pensioner card holders)

Children: $5 (aged 5 to 16 years)

Family: $25 (2 adults and up to 4 children)
