Conference
Venue: National Museum of Australia, Canberra
Selling Yarns 3: Weaving the nation’s story is a conference, workshop, market day and exhibition program that promotes textile and fibre craft and design practices of Indigenous artists. It explores the place of Indigenous textile practices in the story of nation building in Australia. Its focus is to promote and share contemporary Indigenous textile practice, and to demonstrate that cultural practices can generate a dialogue that draws all interested parties together for the benefit of a rich and sustainable culture.
An exciting program for delegates and the general public will foster artistic and cultural exchange, and create professional development opportunities.
Conference themes will highlight the transfer of Indigenous knowledge; production of material and collaborative partnerships; the Indigenous fabric and fashion market, and contemporary modes of practice.
A series of practical workshops and demonstrations will be presented for the delegates and the general public that will foster artistic and cultural exchange, and create professional development opportunities.
