By the Water: Outdoor concert
Due to sketchy weather, we've made the difficult decision to bring the concert inside. We are as disappointed as you, but we wanted you to be dry and didn't want to cancel at the last minute if the heavens opened. Unfortunately that means no picnics on the lawn, so leave the blankets and picnic baskets at home. There will be heaps of food and drink available including from Broadbean Cafe, our brand new caterers who are thrilled to be participating in their first Museum concert.
Wear comfortable shoes as there is very limited seating.
Note that we are also now sold out and there will be no ticket sales at the door. It looks like you are as excited to see the Mentals and Chantoozies as we are.
If you have a pre-purchased ticket, we look forward to seeing you tonight.
Mental as Anything and The Chantoozies
Saturday, 1 March 2014, 7–9pm, doors open 6pm
Calling all 80s music lovers looking for a night with a difference. Grab a picnic blanket and some friends and settle in on the Museum’s lakeside lawn for a night of music overlooking the Canberra skyline.
If you owned a Rubik’s Cube, had big hair, bopped to the beats on your Sony Walkman or bragged to your friends that your computer had a 3½-inch floppy disk, then we have a night of 80s fun for you.
In the case of wet weather
The concert will go ahead no matter what the sky throws at us! Food and drink including alcohol will still be available for purchase, so leave your picnic blankets and picnic baskets behind this time. It will be a fun night with a couple of unexpected extras for those willing to brave the weather.

Mental as Anything
ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Mental as Anything – the ‘Mentals’ to fans – have earnt a lasting reputation as an ‘80s pub rock sensation that continues to delight audiences today.
How the band formed has become a bit of a popular urban myth. It begins with a group of art students who passed themselves off as a band in order to con the local publican into giving them a gig in exchange for free beer. The deception worked better than intended, and the group came to be known as Mental as Anything. Nearly three decades later, they are still entertaining the public with their highly listenable, idiosyncratic brand of garage pop. Best known for their international chart success Live it Up, they have enjoyed other chart success with If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too as well as The Nips are Getting Bigger and Too Many Times.
Adding a bit more ‘80s flavour to the night, we have the pop sensations The Chantoozies. Originally formed as a good-time covers band for a one-off show, they went on to become one of Australia’s favourite girl bands.
They released the singles Witch Queen of New Orleans, He’s Gonna Step On You Again, Wanna Be Up, Kiss ‘n’ Tell, Come Back, Walk on, Love The One You’re With and I’ll be there, all receiving great success on the Australian music charts.
Entry for all patrons is via the Museum’s Hall. There is no access along the lake.
We will open our doors from 6pm to allow time for all guests to collect their tickets and select their spot for this performance. There will be no allocated seating. The Museum box office is located in the main Hall. Be sure to arrive early.
In the unlikely occurrence that the event is cancelled, information will be posted on the event website enlightencanberra.com.au, http://www.visitcanberra.com.au/ and on the Museum’s website www.nma.gov.au.
What if it's raining?
