Word for word – Songlines

Sunday 4 February 2018, 5.00pm–7.00pm

Join us as we explore the languages of Australia’s first peoples, against the backdrop of our Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters exhibition. Journey with our speakers as they introduce and define favourite words in language, then discuss why these word are precious and defy translation into English.

Cost: $15 adult, $10 concession, $7.50 Friends full members (plus booking fee)

Introducing our toddler program

Wednesday 7 February 2018, 10.00am–11.00am

Time for the under-fives to have fun and explore the Museum. Join us on the first Wednesday of the month in a series art-making, storytelling and gallery exploration activities.

The inspiration for the first program is the bogong moth made by Reko Rennie that hangs in the Main Hall.

Suitable for preschool-aged children and their carers.

Midawarr I Harvest – Artist talk with John Wolseley

Tuesday 13 February 2018, 12.30pm–2.00pm

Spend an afternoon with renowned artist John Wolseley for an exclusive insight into the development of the Midawarr | Harvest exhibition, which also features the work of Yolŋu elder and bark painter Mulku Wirrpanda.

Midawarr means ‘harvest’ in the Yolŋu matha (language). It is the season when rich plant life on Yolŋu country is ready to be collected and prepared.

Living Songlines symposium

Join leading professionals in a unique one-day forum to assess the impact and legacy of Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters. This exhibition will serve as a case study to consider ways Australia’s oldest stories can be shared, preserved and ‘future-proofed’ for all to understand and relate to.
