Old Masters lecture series

Dr Luke Taylor: individual inspiration and social connection in western Arnhem Land

Celebrating our Old Masters exhibition, this lecture series ventures into the world of Australian bark painting. It aims to explore the dynamism and richness of Indigenous Australian cultural expression and draws on experts who continue to be inspired by this unique and fascinating cultural art form. Dr Luke Taylor is an anthropologist, accomplished author and deputy principal of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. Hosted by Genevieve Jacobs from 666 ABC Canberra.

When The Queen Came To Town

When The Queen Came To Town movie matinee

Join us for an exclusive preview of When The Queen Came To Town, a new feature film celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 1954 Royal tour of Australia.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with the film's director and producer.

Dress up in your royal finery and join us for this special fundraising event. All proceeds will go towards the Royal Daimler Project and help us reverse the rust on this historic car.

Cost: $25. Includes afternoon tea served in the Hall's Bay Window area.

Widely acclaimed comedian, writer and TV personality Tim Ferguson will be the first guest in the series, in conversation with Radio National producer Catherine Freyne. Join us as we delve into Tim’s life, from his early career in the Doug Anthony All Stars to the recent publishing of his autobiography Carry a Big Stick: A Funny, Fearless Life of Friendship, Laughter and MS.

Landmark Women: Dr Julia Newton-Howes AM

Our popular program celebrating the lives of prominent women living and working in Canberra.

This month we welcome Dr Julia Newton-Howes, chief executive officer of CARE Australia. Since 2007, Julia has strived for gender equality and women's empowerment in CARE’s programs, along with growing the humanitarian aid agency's revenue and ensuring effective management. On Australia Day 2014, Julia became a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia in recognition of her significant service to the international community through executive roles with aid organisations, and to women. In 2013, she was named Telstra ACT Business Woman of the Year and won the Global category in the 2013 Financial Review – Westpac 100 Women of Influence Awards.
