Landmark women

Friday 19 October 2012, 10:00am to 11:30am

Prominent women talk about their lives, work and passions. Our speaker for October is Marie Coleman. Marie Coleman graduated from the University of Sydney in 1953 and has worked as a society page journalist, a radio and television scriptwriter, a medical social worker, and head of a not-for-profit body concerned with social policy analysis. In 1973 she was recruited to the Australian Public Service by the newly elected Prime Minister of Australia, Gough Whitlam, and became the first woman in Australia to head a government agency – the short-lived Australian Social Welfare Commission. In retirement she works with national women's organisations to explore the gender implications of policy.
