Australia's leading social researcher and author Hugh Mackay says that gardens and gardening satisfy three of our most basic human desires but which ones, and how?

In this presentation for Friends of the National Museum of Australia and Open Gardens Australia, Hugh will explain not only why we become so attached to our gardens – public and private – but also why we need them in our lives and would suffer without them. Hugh is the author of 13 books, including six bestsellers.

His latest book, What Makes Us Tick? The ten desires that drive us, will be available for sale and signing before his presentation.

Cost: $20 (includes refreshments and nibbles)
