Kate Rigby is an Associate Professor in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies at Monash University. Her research ranges across German Studies, European philosophy, literature and religion, and culture and ecology. She will be based at the National Museum's Centre for Historical Research until the end of November 2008.
Kate's current project is entitled 'Learning to live on the Limestone Plains: culture and environment in Canberra and the ACT'. It involves an investigation into the 'deep' environmental history of the Canberra area, encompassing the geophysical, climatological and socio-cultural forces that have formed and transformed this place over time.
In addition to her work on the Limestone Plains, Kate's current research is concerned with the social, cultural and ethical dimensions of climate change and adaption. She will be speaking at the Home and Away – Writing about Place conference at the National Library of Australia from 24-25 October 2008.
