Maggie Mars

Maggie loves photography and being involved in community projects such as the Wentworth Basin Bytes. She works part-time at the Wentworth Library, and is also a teacher at Coomealla TAFE.

In the summer, the Murray is the place to swim. It has river beaches and easy access.

After a hot night, early walkers must tread quietly. Many people come to sleep on the river bank. For local Indigenous people a hole in a River Red Gum denotes a boundary. The river is still of great significance to local Indigenous people.

The Old Anabranch bridge, Anabranch

Now in autumn, we are exploring the Anabranch, formerly a link between the Darling and Murray rivers.

Thegoa Lagoon

In winter, when snakes are fewer, Thegoa Lagoon is a favourite. It has just received water after a two-year dry. Yesterday (26 March 2004) there were reports of blue-green algae, and warnings of its danger to stock and dogs.
