Jennifer Matthews

Jennifer is a practising artist, as well as an art student at La Trobe University in Mildura. She lives in Mildura and is passionate about her photography and painting. Jenny has used some of her artwork in her images for Wentworth Basin Bytes.

The salinity has killed the old trees and vegetation. Salinity is a major problem in the Mallee. Equilibrium is the word I have chosen for my exhibition and to me it means a balance between quality of life, and the quality of environment, which this photo is not.

Just a few inches away from where this photo was taken is a backwash where the trees are mostly dead due to salinity.

Etiwanda Wetlands, Etiwanda Ave

This dry cracked earth is planned to become a wetland. This will encourage new species to the area, as it will provide essential breeding and feeding habitats for many different organisms.

Mildura skies, Mildura

I was so thrilled to be given a loan of a Canon digital camera to take photos for this project, that I went outside and photographed the sky. I had previously taken many photos of skies with my SLR camera and thought I could compare technology. If only I had it last year it wouldn't have cost me a small fortune in developing film.
