Emblem Park is located in the centre of one of Wagga Wagga's urban areas most affected by salinity. The park is the site of one of the earliest dewatering pumping bores installed in the 1990s by Wagga Wagga City Council as part of their salinity strategy.
When the watertable rises to a particular level, water is pumped out from below the surface into an on-site tank. This water is then used to irrigate the salt tolerant plantings in the park. The park also has a public education role, with salinity and water data available from the installed monitoring equipment.
