The history of hip hop extends at least as far back to the 1970s in the South Bronx district of the United States.

Hip hop has now become a global musical art form. It can be found thriving everywhere from Tokyo to Havana, Paris to Geraldton, Western Australia, constantly being adapted to local issues, styles, tastes and fashions.

Our Museum team and hip hop artists spent two months on the road visiting seven locations in six states and territories recording rap songs with around 1600 young people from over 60 schools.

In this site you can see how the project was developed, meet the team behind it, access some of the songs created by the kids and even play with an online music mixer.
