Richard and his family have lived in the Murray Mouth area since 1980.
The Murray Mouth closed for the first time in recorded history in 1981. The mouth was a beach. Since then the sand has continued to invade the mouth area drowning wetlands and threatening shacks at the mouth, creating sand dunes where coastal creeks used to exist.
In 1998 the family bought Tarni Warra, a small wetland and sand dune property that has been restored and is now covenanted and a private sanctuary. Since 2001 he has been involved in managing the Murray Mouth Estuary Restoration Project.
