Humphrey No. 193: ‘Another [Needle] used for the like purpose [to fasten their Cloaks with] by ditto [Natives of New Zealand], made of the thick edge of the Iris-Ear Shell.’
Cloak fastener in the form of a curved needle made of green (abalone) shell (paua), wrapped around at one end. Kaeppler (1978a: 179) mentioned a comparable paua needle for the collection in Wellington, New Zealand. Markus Schindlbeck
