Occasionally monitor water quality.

Water quality:

Turbidity: 75
pH: 8
Salinity: 2.60mS

Water sample was taken right as the sewage water mixes with the river water. This is the highest salinity measure I have seen there — typically both sewage water and river water are around 1450µS.

ACT Waterwatch says:

This poor site!

Pretty much everything that can go wrong, has — human waste, low flow, animal waste, grazing up to the edge of the bank with associated damage, and irrigation cropping!

About the site

Deep narrow channel with steep banks, brown water, no flow, intermittent red gums, Angophora floribunda and river oaks on banks, good stands of Eliocaris in stream, plains grass on top of bank, sewage water inflow, some snags, carp, turtles and waterfowl.

What's going on:

Stock access, so banks grazed and stock watering point, saline sewage inflow and high evaporation with no flow lead to high salinity, high presence of carp, centre pivot irrigation used on one side of bank, steep banks on heavy black clay soils are prone to erosion when dry and slumping when wet. Red gum die back, star thistle invasion and log removal from top of banks.

Site for carp removal, funding applications pending for revegetation, sporadic water monitoring.
