Dunedoo Area Community Group Inc: Coolaburragundy River
Bottle number: 95
About the water
Collected at: Coolaburragundy River Crossing, road between Coolah and Cassilis, NSW
S: 31° 49.592', E: 149° 43.534'
Collected by: Dunedoo Area Community Group Inc (Dunedoo Coolah Landcare)
Was a site on a recent Talbragar River bus trip, have not conducted any work at the site.
ACT Waterwatch says:
Something is going on upstream to cause the turbidity. One hopes stock aren't drinking there, it's much too salty!
Notice that the land has been cleared and ploughed nearly to the edge of the river. Such practices are probably contributing to the elevated salinity levels. Further, note that the only trees to be seen in either picture are exotic. Not much habitat here at all for Australian animals.
About the site
Species include weeping willows, phragmites, average canopy cover, average bank cover, one snag visible, greenish water, no flow, muddy bottom, site for trout release in late 90s, human litter pollution. Saw turtles and small fish near water's edge, lots of water bugs near water's edge.
What's going on:
No stock access directly to site but assumed just upstream, lots of litter, recreational fishing site, land use practices on banks include grazing, and housing.
No work other than sporadic water sampling.
