Our group has been monitoring local waterways through the local Waterwatch program for several years. We undertake regular monitoring at this site to ensure that the water in our local area is healthy for swimming, boating and irrigation.
There are some great wetland areas nearby this site including Wachtels lagoon which is inundated with red milfoil and other aquatic plants with lots of swans and other birds.
Water quality:
| Turbidity: | 40 |
| pH: | 6.5 |
| Nitrates: | 0.05mg/L |
| Salinity: | 400EC units |
| Phosphates: | 0.2mg/L |
ACT Waterwatch says:
The turbidity is higher than expected. In a wide river like this, additional riparian planting could help, but a significant commitment from communities upstream will be required to improve things.

About the site
This site is one of our regular Waterwatch monitoring sites and it is located near the old Kingston Ferry site at the Kingston Bridge. The land use near this site is purely recreation and bushland with lots of native vegetation.
What's going on:
The site and area is mostly rural and recreational.
As above – we monitor the water quality at the site each school term as part of the Waterwatch program.
