ANZAC Pilgrims

Each year thousands of Australians and New Zealanders descend on Canakkale in Turkey on their way to Gallipoli. Since 1990 the number of visitors has increased as a new generation discover the Anzac legend. Tour companies and souvenir sellers have benefited from this growth of visitors to Anzac Cove. Attending the dawn service at Gallipoli is now a key event on the backpacker trail.

Taken as the sun rose on the dawn service. We could see a light out at sea all night and thought it was a fishing boat. The warship sailed off after the service finished. 25 April 2002
