Art and craft activities especially for preschool-aged children and their grandparents.

A Bush Rider's Olympic Story

Thursday 12 February 2015, 2pm to 3.30pm

Neale Lavis is one of Australia's greatest equestrians and a 1960 Rome Olympics three-day event champion. Now in his 80s, Neale breeds, rides and trains horses at his property in Braidwood, New South Wales. Neale will present his story, with a short film screening and conversation, just for Museum Friends. Discover his ongoing relationship with horses, from taking part in the Light Horse memorials to enjoying mountain rides with his mates.This will be a lovely afternoon treat in the Friends Lounge.

Cost: $5 for all Friends members, numbers limited

Rare books viewing: Illustrated botanical books

Wednesday 18 February 2015, 1.30pm to 3pm

Don't miss this very special event at the Museum's Research Library. Janda Gooding, Assistant Director, Collections, Content and Exhibitions, and Vicki Humphrey, Head of Conservation, will showcase a selection of the Research Library's rare and special illustrated botanical books and discuss how art and science combine in the beautiful illustrations. Friends are invited to enjoy a cuppa in the Friends Lounge following this presentation.

Landmark women

Friday 20 February 2015, 10.30am to 12pm

Landmark Women celebrates the lives and passions of distinguished women living and working in Canberra.

The first of our Landmark Women talks for 2015 will feature the lovely ladies behind the successful Handmade Canberra retail business. Julie Nichols and Rachel Evangelou are also the winners of the Telstra 2013 ACT Start-Up Business of the Year award. We highly recommend this event if you are keen to hear fascinating business ideas and be inspired by the success of handmade products.
