Mungily, 2007
Veronica Lulu, Warlayirti Artists, acrylic on linen, 49 x 48.6 cm
This one bush tucker [mungily]. Walmajarri people were living on this bush tucker. The old people used to collect them and dry in the sun. The seeds from this plant can be dried, washed to remove salty taste and rolled into damper and cooked. This was food for our ancestors.
Parta, 2007
Veronica Lulu, Warlayirti Artists, acrylic on linen, 49.5 x 50 cm
This one parta, they grind this one, my ancestors collect them and make damper. Don't need to wash this one like mungily — just get the seed and pull it out and grind it.
Paruku and Walmajarri People, 2007
Veronica Lulu, Warlayirti Artists, acrylic on linen, 49.2 x 50.4 cm
This is the lake and the Walmajarri people. This mob were living by the lake, my ancestors, my father's family, on their Country. This other mob came from the desert to Paruku and Nyarna [Lake Stretch] when their water run out, and meet up with Walmajarri people. They shared food and bush tucker.
They were family too, they worked together with stockmen. My family came in from Walkali [in the desert]. After stock work [finished] they went separate ways: some to Balgo, some to Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek and stations.
