Spirited: Australia's Horse Story

Guestbook

While our exhibition Spirited: Australia’s Horse Story was on show, we created a guestbook so visitors could tell us what they thought. We asked what they liked and disliked, what they saw or learnt that they didn’t expect, and whether they felt something was missing.

Thank you to those of you who took part. The guestbook is now closed but below are some of the responses.

I enjoyed the exhibition very much - thank you. The only disappointment was the video criticising the use of the whip in horse racing. It seemed out of place. I have no problem with the issues raised in the video per se and think that they should be investigated further. However, it seemed unfair to single out the horse racing industry when there is also the potential for injury or cruelty to horses in endurance riding (165 kilometres in less than 24 hours), show jumping, stock work, polo etc. It also seemed a bit hypocritical after including memorabilia relating to the horse racing industry (Phar Lap and the Melbourne Cup) as part of the exhibition.

Fantastic and inspiring exhibition.

But, I agree with Margo and David's comment about the absence of RDA. It was disappointing, considering the impact that horses have on the lives of people with special needs, that there was no mention of RDA or other like-minded organisations which operate at a community level across Australia.

A well-presented, informative exhibition - lots of interesting exhibits and stories, and the sculptures are excellent. Disappointed, though, that there was no mention of the horse's role in therapy through the Riding for the Disabled Association.
