Coiled fibre artwork

The show has a wide range of baskets from conventional to quirky, two and three dimensional, innovative sculptures, including a smaller version of the Grass Toyota that won the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art award in 2005.

Organic Transition

Philomena Hali, 2007

A fibre and silk sculpture. The sculpture is in an approximate S shape, with a woven basket form at one end and a 'tail' made up of small silk sections. The silk sections are each wrapped to form a point and have been dyed in browns and eggplant colours. The silk sections protrude in different directions, like plant leaves. More of them can be seen in the basket through an opening in its side.
