An unsafe world

News of war and terror attacks continued to dominate the international pages of our newspapers. July 2006 saw major clashes in southern Lebanon between Israeli and Hezbollah forces. The Taliban re-emerged as a military power in Afghanistan, and allied forces continued to suffer heavy casualties in Iraq. Within Australia, debate continued over the detention of David Hicks in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
