Allson Edrick Tabuai was born in 1933 on Saibai Island where he learnt ceremony, dance and music, language, ancestral stories and traditional Torres Strait arts and crafts. After moving to Cairns he and family members formed a small troupe and began performing Saibai Island dancing at festivals and other events in Cairns. Tabuai uses highly innovative artefacts to complement his skilled and energetic choreography.
