Ned Kelly: Fact and Fiction

Portrait of Ned Kelly, aged about 15, May 1870
Ned Kelly, aged about 15, photographed in May 1870 during his imprisonment in Kyneton. Magic Lantern Slides Collection, National Museum of Australia.

Many mysteries surround iconic Australian bushranger Ned Kelly. Who was he? How did he become an outlaw? What made the man into the myth? Ned Kelly: Fact and Fiction offers fresh answers to these enduring questions.

This is a graphic-based exhibition consisting of 16 pull-up banners which trace the story of the young thief who gained notoriety as leader of the Kelly Gang, vowing to fight the authorities on behalf of the poor and oppressed, before he was captured and hanged in 1880.
