Removal of objects from the Nation gallery
Museum staff and contractors removed all objects from display in the Nation gallery during February 2010. Objects on loan have been returned to lenders, and objects from the National Historical Collection were transported to the Museum's storage facility at Mitchell.
Phar Lap's heart returned to display in the new Landmarks gallery in June 2011.
The replica of Melbourne's 1901 Citizens' Arch, built especially for display in the Nation gallery, was carefully dismantled in the gallery, before being moved to storage.
