The opening of Parramatta Stadium is celebrated in 1986. The new stadium was one of a number built to replace older suburban grounds in the 1980s and 1990s. Parramatta's original ground, Cumberland Oval, was damaged in a fire started by exuberant fans after Parramatta's grand final victory in 1981.
