Poor storage conditions resulted in the corrosion of upholstery studs and the drying out and cracking of the gimping. Gimping is the decorative border that adorns the edges of chair backs.
An accumulation of wasp nest debris was found inside the seat's pivot bearing.
The painted finish on the chair supports had lifted off in many areas due to corrosion.
The lining underneath this seat was torn, exposing the timber structure and fasteners.
