Alpunea (Jean Barr-Crombie), a Wangkangurru and Yarluyandi woman from Birdsville in Queensland, talks about her ancestors and what their names mean in language. Alpunea’s own name, for example, means ‘grinding’. Here she talks about the importance of names in language – and how they link people to the past, country and culture.
