Erub (Darnley Island)

The sea is a source of inspiration for artists throughout the Torres Strait. Ghost nets are discarded or lost fishing nets by artists. Artists based at Erub Erwer Meta Darnley Island Arts Centre on the island of Erub use ghost nets in the airt. In 2014, the National Museum purchased the ghost-net sculpture Loyalty Dinghy, made by Ellarose Savage, Jimmy Thaiday, Racy Oui-Pitt, Emma Gela, Florence Gutchen, Nancy Naawi, Nancy Kiwat, Lavinia Ketchell and Miller Anson. These artists talk about the making of this ghost net dinghy.
