Growing up in paradise

Robert Butler, a Wangkangurru man from Birdsville, Queensland, speaks of the vastness and beauty of his country on the edge of the Simpson Desert. One of the most precious resources of this landscape is pituri, which is a tobacco-like stimulant. Robert remembers his ancestors living on country, and sourcing pituri from the surrounding landscape. Some of the bags that his ancestors made to carry pituri are now in the British Museum collections.
