About Snapshots
Initiated by the National Museum of Australia in 2003, Snapshots of Remote Communities is a partnership venture between the Museum, regional museums and galleries and Australian primary schools.
Participating students investigate the history and uniqueness of their local community and learn about how museums and galleries work. Students photograph their community, from local characters and daily life, to natural features or historical landmarks and use the images and other media to create an exhibition.
Applications are sought from schools in a different region each year. Snapshots of Remote Communities is curriculum-based and provides participating schools with a comprehensive unit of work and an opportunity to exhibit student work at a regional museum and online.
