Michael Angus in the foreground captures some students dancing in front of the green screen. Green screen is sometimes called chroma-key. This allows the video artist to insert other images, including video footage, into the background during post production.

Creating a green screen composite image starts with a subject that has been photographed in front of an evenly lit, bright, pure green background. The compositing process, whether photographic or electronic, replaces all the green in the picture with another image, known as the background plate.
