Toby Silcock was born on Remembrance Day, 1991. For most of his life he has had an interest in the performing arts, writing and comedy. In primary school he excelled in singing and music, achieved 100 per cent in the University of New South Wales English Competition, acted in many musical theatre productions, and has been successful academically.

Now at Alfred Deakin High School, he has begun Media, a subject he has always been interested in, and has continued along a path in the performing arts, achieving a place in the highest performing arts program offered by Alfred Deakin High School. As a keen student of media and performing arts with both a great appreciation and enjoyment of good comedy and an interest in politics, he sees interviewing The Chaser team at the Talkback Classroom forum as a great opportunity to delve into the world of political satire.

I am actively involved with public speaking and debating, and I debate at school, state and university levels. My passion in this area prompted me to expand my experiences by becoming involved with Talkback Classroom. I am very interested by politics and political satire in particular, which motivated me to get involved with this forum featuring members of The Chaser team.

I admire The Chaser team for their great comic ability and biting humour, and relish any opportunity to view the work of, or interact with, people who are at the forefront of political satire. I look forward to what is sure to be an exciting and rewarding experience with Talkback Classroom and The Chaser.

I guess I've always been opinionated and Talkback Classroom gives me a chance to say what I want! Politics appeals to me because of its colourful characters and dramas − it really does veer on becoming a soap opera at times − bold, sure, but not so beautiful.

I got involved with Talkback Classroom when a friend showed me the note because she knew of my love for The Chaser. It's thanks to The Chaser that my little 11-year-old brother can tell you who he thinks should have won the 2004 election, and why! I was brought up in a family where talking about politics and our world was a pretty regular thing.

I've been writing ever since I was little, and had a short story published in 2004 and won the Canberra Young Writer's Award this year. I love words − they hold so much power, and writing makes me feel like I'm harnessing that power just a little bit. My other interests are drama, media, music and just generally talking − only now there's people listening.
